CONTEMPORARY REFURBISHMENT EXAMPLE
We worked with the clients on a Grade II* listed flat in Islington which has been designed in the early 1950s. The aim was to remodel the space and to refurbish it sympathetically to Lubetkin’s original concept. The design centred on the curved staircase both inside the flat and, very dramatically, in the entrance halls, that in turn reflect the curved stair wells of the surrounding Georgian properties. We spent time with our clients to establish and interpret their vision, and managed the process throughout. This included:
- Full drawings
- a listed building planning application
- a planning appeal
- a schedule of works
- electrical and lighting design
- heating specification and layout
- cabinetry designs and supply
- liaison with the clients’ suppliers including the audio visual and kitchen suppliers
Ed & the whole team at Urban Design Build were absolutely fantastic at every stage of our full-flat renovation. Both during the bid and the design stage they listened to what we wanted and were immensely helpful at providing useful expertise and guidance (including by talking me out of some of my more expensive ideas). They were great with our listed building consent application (and appeal!) and in finding the perfect specialists for things like cabinets and a glass wall between the entryway and the lounge. When things went wrong (we found asbestos, for example) they solved everything quickly and without fuss, and didn’t let it delay the project too much. They’ve also been fantastic at fixing the snags since the project finished. I couldn’t be happier with their work or their level of service, and I’d highly recommend them.’
